Vevay Cash Saver Denies Closing Rumors

Cash Saver in Vevay.

(Vevay, Ind.) - Do not worry Switzerland County. Your local grocery store is staying open after all.

The county’s one and only grocer, the Cash Saver Grocery in Vevay, opened last September. It’s opening filled the need for a local store and meant that county residents wouldn’t have to make a long road trip to restock their refrigerators or pantries.

Rumors began swirling Saturday when the store closed suddenly. Many were under the impression that the grocer was calling it quits.

It turns out that Cash Saver had an equipment problem which forced it to close for one day only, owner Eric Rabe said on the store’s Facebook page.

“The simple truth is that we had a minor problem in one of our compressors that effected air flow to several refrigerated cases. The health department was called and came in and checked the situation and gave us their input on what needed to be done which has been accomplished,” Rabe posted.

The store reopened Sunday morning. Rabe said the equipment issue has been fixed and none of the 42 employees were fired.

The owner pointed at a small group of people who were looking to spread the closing rumors

“Nasty gossip and mean spirited rumors are a cancer that can hurt people and communities,” Rabe said. “Please shop with us and let us continue to serve a very vital function to the community.”
