SISWD Becomes SEIRD

(Madison, Ind.) - The Southeastern Indiana Solid Waste District is recycling its name.

The organization which has used that name for the past 22 years will soon be called the Southeastern Indiana Recycling District. SIERD’s Board of Directors recently voted to make the switch.

“Solid waste management is still a big part of our job—recycling is a large part of our district,” said Aaron Bell, SEIRD executive director, in a statement.  

The organization wants its customers in seven local counties to know that there won’t be any change in the services offered. The district provides recycling for Franklin, Jefferson, Jennings, Ohio, Ripley, Scott, and Switzerland counties.

“Having ‘recycling’ in our title makes us more recognizable to our residents and other agencies,” said Kendal Miller, the organization’s public outreach coordinator. “The ‘solid waste’ label was understandably confusing as to what services SEIRD provides—although educating the public as to all of our services will be an ongoing process.”

A recycled version of the district’s logo will soon begin appearing on the district website and promotional materials.

“I think of our name change as progress,” explained Miller. “We want our residents to recognize that we’re good environmental stewards while in turn helping them to be the same—we’re their recycling opportunity and more.”
