Pavement Replacement, Lane Closures For I-71/75 Now Through November

The $6.3 million project will shore up pavement on a four-mile stretch of Interstate 71/75 in Florence and Erlanger.

(Boone County, Ind.) – A $6.3 million pavement repair project will bring construction crews back to Interstate 71/75 in Boone and Kenton counties this summer.

The pavement repair project begins Tuesday, May 1, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, with crews from The Harper Company, of Hebron, working mainly on the evenings and weekends to accommodate traffic.

“Several sections of pavement will be removed and replaced with new concrete,” said Bob Yeager, chief district engineer for Department of Highways District 6 in Covington. “Once complete, this section of roadway will provide a safer and smoother ride for all those who travel on the I-71/I-75 interstate.”

There are multiple phases of the project, starting May 1 with drain cleaning that will keep the left lane of I-71/75 southbound closed overnight from 9:00 p.m. until 5 a.m. from Buttermilk Pike to Turfway Road. Work may continue into the weekend until this phase is complete.

Starting Friday, May 11, crews will work overnight to restripe lanes on the southbound side between Buttermilk Pike and just beyond Turfway Road. The ramp wall on the exit ramp to Donaldson Road will also be repaired.

After the southbound side repairs are made, the contractor will jump to the northbound side between Turfway Road and the I-275 interchange.

There will be lane shifts throughout the project, which will continue through November. Motorists should watch for signage, ramp closures, and work crews.

This project is different from a $15.1 million pavement replacement project that took place in 2016 in the northbound lanes of I-71/75 between I-275 and Dixie Highway. This time around, crews will focus on several deteriorating pavement sections along four-mile area. Crews will be making pavement repairs along with diamond grinding.
