Explosion Causes Damage At Boone County Landfill

(Walton, Ky.) - An explosion rocked homes and businesses near a landfill in Walton Sunday night. Witnesses reported hearing and feeling the explosion at the Bavarian Waste Facility on McCoys Fork Road at around 9:00 p.m. A ball of fire was then seen rising into the night sky. No injuries were reported in the blast, however, some buildings at the landfill were damaged. A brief power outage was also reported in the area. Fire investigators have not commented on a possible cause of the explosion. Fire departments from Walton, Crittenden, Union, and Verona responded to the Bavarian Waste Facility located just off of Interstate 71.
