Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels
(West Lafayette, Ind.) - Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels will see a sizable bump up in his pay when he becomes president of Purdue University next year.
Daniels annual salary as governor is $95,000.
A memorandum of understanding between Daniels and the Purdue Board of Trustees says Daniels will make a figure similar to the current presidents of Purdue and Indiana University, the Indianapolis Star reports.
Purdue President France Cordova, who is retiring July 15, makes $465,000. IU President Michael McRobbie earns $533,000.
The memorandum lays out many other benefits for Daniels, such as the same benefits all Purdue employees receive. The university will also provide a car, house, and pay for moving expenses for Daniels. Contributions will also be made to his retirement plan.
Daniels and the board of trustees have not yet reached a contract, which the memorandum dictates will be for five years. The governor said he will finish his final term as governor into January before starting at Purdue.
