Update published Friday, February 1:
A semi truck was torn to shreds as it veered off of Interstate 74 and ripped through trees Thursday.
The wreck happened on I-74 Eastbound just west of Batesville around 1:30 p.m.
Batesville firefighters had to extricate the driver from the wreckage before he could be flown to a hospital. There is no word yet on that truck driver’s name or condition.
The wreck shut down I-74 Eastbound for at least a couple hours.

(Batesville, Ind.) - A wreck has closed Interstate 74 near Batesville Thursday afternoon.
The wreck occurred near the 146 mile marker.
It is unclear how many people were injured. A medical helicopter was called to the scene.
Indiana State Police say I-74 eastbound traffic is being diverted onto State Road 46 at the New Point until the crash scene is cleared.
