Calendar Salesman Arrested In Ripley Co.

(Versailles, Ind.) - A calendar salesman could soon be counting the days until he is released from jail in Ripley County.

The sheriff’s office there had contracted in 2010 with Richard Clements, Jr. to have him assemble and sell sponsorships for a department calendar. The contract was not renewed for 2011 after some issues with the calendar the year before.

That did not stop Clements, 45, of Nicholsville, Ky., from continuing to solicit Ripley County businesses to sponsor the 2011 calendar, the sheriff’s office alleges.

Charges were sent to the Ripley County Prosecutor’s Office for review last November, and a warrant was issued for Clements’ arrest in December.

Clements, who was arrested in Switzerland County on unrelated charges in late November, was extradited back to the Ripley County Jail on January 31 to face a charge of Theft.

The sheriff’s office says Clements is also facing similar charges in two counties in Kentucky. He will be extradited back to Kentucky after his case in Indiana wraps up.

A warrant was issued for the 45-year-old Nicholasville, Kentucky resident’s arrest… He was in jail in Switzerland County on separate charges, and was extradited back to Ripley County January 31.

“I appreciate all the support the community gives in monetary donations to the Sheriff’s Office.  I would advise anyone wanting to donate to any community program, or to the Sheriff’s Office, to please call and check the validity of the program if there is any doubt,” said Ripley County Sheriff Tom Grills.

If you are victim of this case, and you have not reported it, you can contact the sheriff’s office for further information.
