Tuesdays Rain Closed US 50, Ski Area

(Greendale, Ind.) - Tuesday morning’s rain and thunderstorms had some lingering effects through most of the day.

 

The National Weather Service reported a record 1.37 inches of rain Tuesday at the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport, breaking the previous January 17 record of 1.17 inches set in 1937.

 

Perfect North Slopes had to shut down because of all the rain, which resulted in less than ideal skiing conditions as water and mud pooled near the bottom of some ski runs.

 

The ski area plans to have its ski runs open as normal Wednesday as crews worked through the night to recondition the snow. However, the tubing area will require more work and is likely to remain closed for the day, according to the Perfect North Slopes website.

 

U.S. 50 near Oberting Road in Greendale had to be shut down for a few hours earlier today after serious ponding caused some vehicles to get stuck.

 

Some residents in Greendale also reported power outages during the storm.

 

Cleanup will continue Wednesday in Madison, Indiana where an EF-0 tornado did damage at the Madison Municipal Airport.
