By Travis Thayer (Crestview Hills, Ky.) – Thomas More College will have a new head football coach effective at the end of the 2017 season. The school announced Monday that current head football coach Regis Scafe is retiring at the end of the season. Scafe, who is in his third season at Thomas More, is one of the greatest coaches in Division III history. Overall, Scafe has a 127-97 record in 22 years as a collegiate head coach, including a 23-7 record at Thomas More. Under Scafe’s leadership, the Saints have won two Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) championships and made two appearances in the NCAA Division III Championship. Scafe will turn the program over to Trevor Stellman, a former Conner High School graduate and four-year letter winner as a member of the Saints football team from 2005-2009. Chris Norwell will serve as Stellman’s associate head coach. "When Athletic Director Terry Connor hired Coach Scafe we had two goals, we wanted Regis to give us at least three years to hone the two coaches we had on staff who we thought can be the future of Saints Football and maintain our excellence as the winningest program in Division III," explained President David A. Armstrong, J.D. Stellman, a former quarterback, set holds records for most touchdown passes in a game (four) and season (26). He is also second in career touchdowns with 50, and third in career passing yards with 5,328. "I would first like to thank President Armstrong and Coach Connor for the opportunity to lead a program that means so much to me and my family," stated Stellman. "It is an honor and privilege to represent all of the Blue Rebels and Saints as the first alumnus to be the head coach. I can't wait to continue our work building a nationally recognized and respected program." Thomas more is currently 3-4 with three games to play. The Saints next game comes Saturday at home against Saint Vincent. Kick-off is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at BB&T Field.
