(Dearborn County, Ind.) - The Dearborn County Sheriff's Office says they have received reports of a scam phone call that started circulating today.
The caller claims that the recipient failed to report for jury duty and that a federal warrant has been issued for their arrest. The caller then states that the warrant can be recalled or resolved if a payment is made.
This is a scam.
Law enforcement agencies and courts do not demand payment over the phone to resolve warrants, jury duty issues, or other legal matters. Scammers often use fear and urgency to pressure victims into making immediate payments.
If you receive one of these calls:
• Do not provide any personal or financial information.
• Do not send money or purchase gift cards.
• Hang up immediately.
• Report the incident to your local law enforcement agency.
Please share this information with family and friends, especially those who may be more vulnerable to these types of scams.
