INDIANAPOLIS - Governor Mike Braun has announced a minimum age change for new drivers to obtain an Indiana driver's license.
As part of House Enrolled Act 1200, signed by Gov. Braun in March, the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles is now authorized to issue driver's licenses at age 16, lowering the previous minimum age of 16 years and 90 days.
New drivers must still complete several requirements to obtain a driver's license. They must pass the written test and hold a Learner's Permit for 180 days, successfully complete a Driver's Education Program, pass a vision screening, and pass a driving test, among other requirements.
HEA1200 also allows 16-year-olds to obtain a motorcycle endorsement if they meet the requirements.
