(Rising Sun, Ind.) - For the first time, you can pay to ride the new Rising Sun to Rabbit Hash ferry boat Wednesday.

The MS Lucky Lady ferry will leave from Rabbit Hash at 11:00 a.m. It will arrive just a few minutes later at the landing on the new Ferry Way in Rising Sun.

A one-way trip on the brand new ferry costs $5 for passenger vehicles, and $8 for a round-trip ticket. Rates vary for motorcycles, RVs, and pedestrians hitching a ride.

The trips will run every 15 minutes, seven days per week. Operating hours are 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. from Sunday through Thursday, and 8:00 a.m. until midnight Friday and Saturday.

This past weekend, the ferry opened for a trial run, offering free rides to motorists for a couple days.

The ferry is owned and operated by Rising Star Casino, who hopes to gain some new visitors from northern Kentucky. The boat trip across the 2,000-foot Ohio River will save drivers about 26 miles and 45 minutes they would otherwise spend going to the nearest bridges at either I-275 or Markland Dam.

The MS Lucky Lady could also help reconnect the relationship between Rising Sun and Rabbit Hash, which last had a ferry between them in 1948.

The Rabbit Hash landing is located just off Kentucky 18/Lower River Road between Rabbit Hash and Belleview. Ferry Way is accessible near the clubhouse at Rising Star Casino’s golf course.
