(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – A heightened police presence was noticeable at Lawrenceburg High School as students arrived for class Wednesday morning.

Parents said students were being searched by officers as they entered the school.

Lawrenceburg Community Schools Superintendent Karl Galey said a message was found in a high school classroom recently, leading to the need for the student-by-student search.

“The safety of children is our top priority,” Galey said, adding the searches went smoothly.

The Lawrenceburg Community Schools resource officer will be at the high school most of the day Wednesday.
