Mental Evaluation Ordered In Dismemberment Case

Boone County Sheriff's Office

(Boone County, Ind.) - A judge has ordered a mental evaluation for a South Dearborn High School graduate accused in a gruesome northern Kentucky murder.

Jefferey Allen, Stephen Harkness, and Anthony Baumgartner allegedly murdered 19-year-old drug dealer Daniel Delfin in Verona on January 9. The three told investigators they targeted Delfin because they were trying to “rid the community of evil.”

The three suspects allegedly cut up Delfin’s body after the killing. His torso and legs were found in a Verona field. Other body parts were discarded in a dumpster in Florence.

Allen, 21, was in Boone Circuit Court Wednesday, the Kentucky Enquirer reports. A judge ordered Allen, who attended South Dearborn High School, to undergo mental evaluation which will determine if he is competent to stand trial.

Investigators have said that the trio planned the attack on Delfin for about a week before the murder. They lured him in to a vehicle by staging a drug buy. Detectives have said in court that Allen strangled Delfin until he became unresponsive, then cut his throat and stabbed him.
