LHS Announces Athletic Hall Of Fame Class Of 2021

The Class of 2020 and Class of 2021 will be recognized on July 17.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – Five inductees will make up the Lawrenceburg High School Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2021.

John Broughton, Michele (Metzler) Duvall, Denise (Richter) Kahley, Ryan Knigga, and Jon Richter will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at a public ceremony on Saturday, July 17.

The Class of 2020 will also be recognized, which includes Matt Albright, Jim Faehr, Ray Furney, Roy Kennett, and Jim Pugh.

A welcome reception will be held for Hall of Fame inductees, their family, and invited guests at 5:00 p.m. The induction ceremony will follow at 6:30 p.m. in the LHS Main Gym.

Bio’s for the Class of 2020 and Class of 2021 are listed below.

John Broughton – Member of the Class of 1964. He was the QB of the first undefeated Lawrenceburg High School football team (1963) under LHS Hall of Fame Coach Pat O’Neill. John earned 12 varsity letters as an athlete at LHS. He earned three letters each in Football, Baseball, Basketball, and Track. He went on to become an Indiana Football Hall of Fame member in 2019 as the head coach and eventually the athletic director at Pendleton Heights High School. John passe away on May 11, 2021.

Michele (Metzler) Duvall – Member of the Class of 2006. She excelled in volleyball and was a four-year letter winner. Michele holds the school record for Kills (1366), Blocks (356), and Hitting Efficiency (.358). She was named All-EIAC as a junior and senior. Other accolades include 2006 EIAC MVP, 2006 All-State, 2006 South Indiana All-Star. She went on to play collegiate volleyball at Miami University (Ohio).

Denise (Richter) Kahley – Member of the Class of 1986. She was an IHSAA Tennis State Finalist in 1985 and 1986 at #1 singles. Denise earned EIAC MVP honors as a sophomore, junior, and senior. She was the #1 singles player all four years and was on the 1986 semi-state team.

Ryan Knigga – Member of the Class of 1996. Ryan was a four-year letter winner in football, and three-year letter winner in basketball and baseball. He was All-EIAC in football his junior and senior years. He was also All-State for offense and All-State for defense his senior year, and was part of the 1996 IFCA North/South All-Star Game. Ryan went on to play football at Indiana State University. He is currently the head football coach at Lawrenceburg (88-33 in 11th year).

Jon Richter – Member of the Class of 1990. He reached the IHSAA State Finals all four years of his high school career, finishing 3rd in 1989. He was also EIAC MVP all four years of his career.

The LHS Athletic Hall of Fame was created during the 2018-19 school year. Individuals will be annually inducted based on nominees submitted by community members.

Nominations for LHS Athletic Hall of Fame Consideration for 2021-22 can be found at www.lburg.k12.in.us/o/high-school-athletics. The nomination process for next year’s class will close on December 31.
