(Burlington, Ky.) – The suspect in a deadly shooting in Burlington is wanted for murder.

Boone County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched early Tuesday morning to the 3000 block of Silver Brook Drive after receiving a report of a person who had sustained a gunshot wound.

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies located a 16-year-old female with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

The suspected shooter, Demarkus Hedges, 18, of Cincinnati, reportedly fled the scene in a maroon 2010 Nissan Maxima with Ohio Temporary Tag: P766470.

Detectives say Hedges, the victim, and three others were known to one another and spent much of Monday night into Tuesday morning together in the areas of Cincinnati and Covington. The group later arrived at the Silver Brook Drive address.

According to witness statements, a bag of marijuana fell on the floor and Hedges demanded it be picked up. The victim denied the demand, which led to Hedges allegedly firing the fatal gunshot.

A warrant has been obtained for the arrest of Hedges on one count of Murder, one count of Tampering with Evidence, and two counts of Unlawful Transaction with a Minor 2nd Degree. He is currently at large and considered armed and dangerous.

Hedges is described as 6’3” and 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing black jeans with a black hooded sweatshirt and a cross body bag.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts should contact Boone County Sheriff’s Office at 859-334-2227.
