(Rising Sun, Ind.) – A Rising Sun High School student may have a future in sneaker design.

Justin Wilburn recently advanced to the next stage in the Van’s Custom Culture Shoe Contest. Only 250 schools throughout the U.S. were chosen to participate in the contest.

Each school, including Rising Sun, received five pairs of shoes to begin designing.

Justin will now be tasked with transferring his design to the physical shoe by April 16.

The Top 50 shoe designs will be voted on by the public between April 26-May 7.

The Top 5 and winner will be announced shortly after the public vote.

Vans High School Custom Culture was created to inspire and empower high school students to embrace their creativity through art and design and bring attention to diminishing arts education budgets.

The winner of the contest will earn $50,000 for their high school’s art program.
