By Mike Perleberg (Hebron, Ky.) - Frontier Airlines is cutting flights out of Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport. The Cincinnati Enquirer reports the low-fare carrier is stopping daily flights to Fort Lauderdale and Atlanta, while reducing service to Las Vegas. Frontier does expect to bring back flights to Atlanta in 2016 as seasonal service. The cuts will take effect in October, six months after the airline expanded service to those markets. Frontier Airlines came to CVG in 2013, marking the return of low-cost carriers to the airport. It and competitor Allegiant Air quickly expanded to fill the market for vacation air travelers in the region and help bring down the cost of a ticket. Last month, the two airlines accounted for 18.4 percent of all passengers coming through CVG, the most riding on a low-fare airline in any month in the airport’s history, according to the Enquirer. Last week, Allegiant announced that CVG would become its Midwest hub starting in January 2016. Allegiant plans to add more flights to Fort Lauderdale and Las Vegas. A Frontier spokesman told the newspaper that the flight cuts do not signal that Frontier is failing at CVG or that more downsizing is planned.
