(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - The Lawrenceburg Fire Department has a new fire chief.
On Saturday, longtime firefighter Pat Myers was sworn in as fire chief by Mayor Kelly Mollaun.
Myers, a Lawrenceburg native, is a 30-year member of the Lawrenceburg Fire Department. Over the course of those three decades, he has held every position including Captain, Lieutenant, Assistant Chief, and Deputy Chief.
He replaces longtime Fire Chief Johnnie Tremain, who retired earlier this month after a 39-year career. For the last 10 years, Myers has served directly under Chief Tremain as the department's second in command.
"We always worked well together. He gave me solid advice on certain situations and also gave me the ability to figure things out my own way. I owe Johnnie a lot," said Myers.
Myers added he job shadowed Chief Tremain for eight weeks to further prepare himself to assume the fire chief position.
"It's kind of surreal, I never saw myself getting here. It is very gratifying for the work and time I've put in. Having the backing of the Mayor and the Board of Works, it makes me very proud knowing they have that kind of respect for me," said Myers. "This is a huge promotion and one I don't take lightly. I want us to put out a quality product to the taxpayers, and I want to leave the department better than I found it for the next person. That's my goal."
