INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana continues to see strong educational progress for Hoosier kids, with hundreds of schools across the state recently recognized for excellent literacy rates.
According to the Indiana Department of Education, over 400 schools achieved a 95 percent or higher passage rate on the 2025 Indiana Reading Evaluation and Determination (IREAD) assessment.
Area schools recognized include:
- Bright Elementary School;
- Central Elementary School;
- Manchester Elementary School;
- North Dearborn Elementary School;
- Ohio County Elementary School; and
- Switzerland Co Elementary School
In 2023, the legislature passed a law to implement science of reading standards and provide targeted support for Indiana students experiencing the greatest reading challenges.
Last year, reading scores for Hoosier third graders improved by nearly five percentage points, which is the largest single-year increase since the state launched IREAD in 2013.
These IREAD results follow Indiana placing sixth in the country for fourth and eighth grade reading in the 2024 National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP) rankings.
