Hamilton Co. Commissioners Okay 2012 Budget

(Cincinnati, Oh.) - Next year's Hamilton County budget will cut costs, but boost funding for economic development.

The county commissioners approved the 2012 spending plan Wednesday, allowing county departments time to adjust for funding cuts.

The nearly $209 million budget includes a $2 million cut in 2011 and $4 million reduction in 2012 funding to the sheriff's road patrols in the townships, forcing townships to pay part of the cost for police protection.

Green, Colerain, Sycamore and Anderson townships will no longer be patrolled by sheriff's deputies unless they are paid for by the townships.

Patrols will continue in Harrison, Whitewater, and Crosby townships because the sheriff’s department is the only law enforcement in those townships.

In other aspects of the budget, 21 of 29 county departments will see reductions in funding, with more money will be pumped into job-creating agencies. County employees will no longer be able to roll over unused vacation time.
