Grateful Mom Nominates Highpoint Health Birthing Center Nurse For DAISY Award

One of nurse Jenny Miller's patients nominated her for the coveted DAISY Award.

The Highpoint Health Birthing Center was the site of a recent DAISY Award recognition celebration.  Jenny Miller, RN, BSN, IBCLC, Highpoint Health Birthing Center Nurse and Lactation Consultant (second from right), was honored with the DAISY Award.  She was nominated by new mother Megan Carnes, shown with her son, Dallas. Also at the ceremony were Dawn Walcott, RN, BSN, Highpoint Health Director of Patient Care Services (left), and Angela Scudder, RN, MSN, CENP, Highpoint Health Chief Nursing Officer (far right).

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - The most recent DAISY Award recipient at Highpoint Health is Jenny Miller, RN, BSN, IBCLC, Birthing Center Nurse and Lactation Consultant.  Mrs. Miller, who has cared for patients at the hospital for 26 years, was nominated by new mother Megan Carnes after the birth of her son.

DAISY Awards are presented to nurses who demonstrate extraordinary care for patients and families every day.  This acronym stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.  Based in Glen Ellen, California, the DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by the members of the family of Patrick Barnes.

Mrs. Carnes delivered her son, Dallas Owen, at the Highpoint Health Birthing Center, where Mrs. Miller was one of her nurses.  On her DAISY nomination form, the new mother wrote, “Jenny was always very calm and soft-spoken when caring for us after the birth of our first child.  Jenny showed compassion and empathy throughout our entire stay.  She helped me learn how to breastfeed and was always calm and encouraging when I was struggling.

“Jenny listened to every concern and question we had and always made sure that she could locate information if she did not have the answer,” Mrs. Carnes continued.  “Jenny went above and beyond her duty as a nurse and we feel blessed to have had such a wonderful nurse.”

Mrs. Miller, a Greendale resident, was honored at a ceremony at Highpoint Health in which Mrs. Carnes and Dallas; and Highpoint Health colleagues Jacqulin Ritzmann, RN, BSN, Highpoint Health Birthing Center Unit Manager; Angela Scudder, RN, MSN, CENP, Highpoint Health Chief Nursing Officer; and Dawn Walcott, RN, BSN, Highpoint Health Director of Patient Care Services, attended.  The Highpoint Health DAISY Awards program is coordinated by Belinda Eldridge, RN, Highpoint Health Nursing Development and Recruitment Coordinator.

The honoree was presented a certificate, sculpture titled “A Healer’s Touch,” and, of course, daisies.  As part of the ceremony, everyone was served Cinnabon® rolls, a tradition with the DAISY Awards.

Highpoint Health’s Birthing Center also received a large banner to hang at the nurses’ station for three months recognizing Mrs. Miller’s achievement.
