NWS: EF0 Tornado Caused Damage in Dearborn, Franklin Counties

Update published Tuesday, August 4 at 6:05 AM:

The National Weather Service in Wilmington released information from storm surveys done in Dearborn and Franklin counties. 

The results confirmed that a EF0 tornado touched down in northern Dearborn County and southeast Franklin County during the early evening hours of August 1. 

The tornado started at approximately 6:32 p.m. and lasted 11 minutes, traveling 5.2 miles with a max width of 90 yards and estimated peak winds of 80 miles per hour. 

Damage was first observed east of Lawrenceville along Batta Road. There was some roof damage to farm buildings as well as a large farm wagon overturned. 

The tornado appeared to cross over farm fields, where crops were flattened. At Legion Road, there were several large trees that were damaged or snapped. 

Continuing northeast, the tornado continued to produce tree damage along Trackville Road. 

In Franklin County, the tornado produced roof damage to a single-family home and roof and wall damage to barns. The tornado also caused additional barn and tree damage along Wewe Hill Road before dissipating about two miles southwest of Cedar Grove.

(Franklin County, Ind.) - The National Weather Service in Wilmington has confirmed a tornado touched down in Franklin County on Saturday, August 1. 

The confirmation was made based on radar and video evidence. 

Results from the survey is expected in the coming days.
