Friends of Lauren Hill Memorial Park Will Open April 22

The official opening date was announced yesterday on 2/22/22.

(Greendale, Ind.) – There was no better day to do something special for Friends of Lauren Hill Memorial Park.

In honor of 2/22/22, a special dedication took place Lauren Hill Park on Tuesday. In addition, Friends of Lauren Hill announced the park will officially open on April 22.

It is fitting that special moments take place on days featuring the number 22 considering that was the number Lauren Hill wore as she accomplished her dream of playing college basketball while battling DIPG.

The idea for Lauren Hill Memorial Park started in 2016 with Adam Duwel and Tom Biedenharn meshing together their ideas for what the park would look like.

A boulder that belonged to “Big Tom” has been placed at the site of the park at the top of Georgetown Road in Greendale.

The park will also feature a dog park, which has already been completed, and bike trails. Other recreational areas could be added in the future.

“What a journey. This project started when I was in 8th grade, now I am a freshman in college. For everyone that has ever donated to the park, I thank you. We thank you,” Adam Duwel wrote in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
