(Franklin County, Ind.) - Franklin County Commissioners have voted unanimously to keep a year-long data center moratorium in place.

The moratorium will prevent applications for building a data center until February 24, 2027.

Delaying applications will allow the county to learn more about the infrastructure for a data center and to develop a new zoning code.

A data center is a specialized facility that houses IT infrastructure, including servers, storage systems, and networking equipment, to process, store, and distribute large amounts of data efficiently and securely.

Oppositions of data centers have environmental and economic concerns, in addition to noise and aesthetic disruption.
