(Aurora, Ind.) - It is back to school season, which means the start of the fall sports season is right around the corner.

At South Dearborn High School, more facility upgrades at Backman Field will be on display.

This summer, the school corporation unveiled a new press box and videoboard at Backman Field. These facility upgrades add on to an impressive athletic facility building that was completed in 2024.

The new press box spans 55 feet by 12 feet and features a 56-person occupancy. This two-story, climate-controlled facility provides a comfortable environment for coaches, media personnel, game operations staff, and visiting guests. Its elevated design also creates an outstanding filming platform, significantly enhancing the quality of our livestream broadcasts.

Complementing the facility is a 18' × 24' digital video board, which transforms every event into a first-class game-day experience. Features include:

  • Live camera feeds
  • Instant replays
  • Player introductions
  • Starting lineups
  • Highlight videos
  • Interactive crowd prompts
  • Halftime features and entertainment
  • Sponsor recognition and digital advertising

"Backman Field continues to set a new standard for the student-athlete and fan experience at South Dearborn. These improvements are the direct result of the unwavering commitment and investment of the South Dearborn School Board and our community. Together, they have created athletic facilities that rival the very best in the area, providing an exceptional experience for our student-athletes, fans, sponsors, and visitors," said Ryan Walston, Athletic Director.
