Rising Sun was one of the inaugural grant recipients this past January

(Rising Sun, Ind.) - The City of Rising Sun is celebrating the planting of 22 trees.
In January, Rising Sun was among three small towns named a recipient of the Small Town Big Trees Grant.
The new initiative is specifically designed to lower barriers for Indiana's small populations. Reserved exclusively for communities with 10,000 residents or fewer, Rising Sun joined Charlestown and Wakarusa in the DNR's inaugural round of funding.
The funding supported the planting of 22 trees which replaced trees that were lost along the way and added to other locations which the City deemed appropriate. The trees were planted by the Rising Sun Street Department.
"The City of Rising Sun would like to say Thank You to Rising Sun Main Street Association for pursuing the Small Town Big Trees grant made possible through a matching grant program managed by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. Also, a huge Thank You to Rising Sun Street Department for planting the 22 trees. The collaborative effort to add to the beautification of Rising Sun is very much appreciated," reads a statement from the City of Rising Sun.
