Expect 1-2” Snow Thursday, Friday

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – The tri-state is preparing for its first significant snowfall of the season.

 

Meteorologists with the National Weather Service station in Wilmington, Ohio predict a winter storm inbound for the tri-state.

 

Areas along the Ohio River will have one to two inches on the ground by the time snow ends Friday evening, with slightly larger amounts to the north, meteorologists said.

 

Temperatures will dip Thursday afternoon and evening by as much as 15 to 20 degrees in just a few hours. That will lead to the possibility of ice developing on roads which go untreated by highway departments.

Dearborn County’s Transportation and Engineering Department will be doing their best to stay ahead of this winter storm.

 

“It’s going to be hard to pre-treat the roads because of the rain, but we will hit the roads later, especially those hills and trouble areas like Pribble Road, Kaiser Road, and Cole Lane,” said Tim Greive, the department’s highway supervisor.

 

Greive said all 15 of the county’s trucks will be out this evening and could work overnight to help ensure a smooth morning commute.

 

It’s been a slow winter for highway departments in the tri-state, which is a good thing.  There was a light snow on January 2 that hindered travel, but nothing else this season.

 

With a more than full stock of salt, Grieve said trucks can lay down extra salt when needed.

 

“We can be more liberal with the material because we haven’t used any. We are still using salt from last year’s leftover supply,” he said.
