By Mike Perleberg Deufol North America headquarters in Sunman. (Sunman, Ind.) - Deufol North America is planning to lay off nearly 250 employees at its packaging plant in Sunman. The public announcement was made in a notice the company filed with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development this week. The company’s 243 Sunman layoffs will begin on or about September 30. Most of the affected positions are packers, packaging operators, and display operators, but dozens more positions are also affected. Deufol’s notice notes that the mass layoffs do not mean that the Sunman facility is being closed, but adds that the planned layoff is permanent in nature. No union represents Deufol’s Summan employees and no bumping rights exist. The layoff notice does not give a reason for the layoffs. The company is undergoing changes after acquiring Wisconsin-based Bentley World Packaging’s operations in Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh in June. The move was expected to triple Deufol’s industrial presence, a news release announcing the acquisition stated. The WARN notice filed with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development can be found here. RELATED STORIES: Deufol Adding Operations In Three Cities Deufol Sunman Scores Safety Awards
