(Delaware County, Ind.) - Local law enforcement agencies are urging motorists to follow Indiana's Move Over Law after a tragic accident that claimed the life of a Delaware County Sheriff's deputy.

Corporal Blake Reynolds sustained fatal injuries in a crash along Interstate 69.

Preliminary information indicates that the deputy was assisting a stranded motorist along the interstate when his patrol vehicle was struck by a northbound semi-truck. Despite immediate emergency response efforts, the deputy did not survive his injuries.

The Indiana State Police is leading the investigation into the crash. Out of respect for the ongoing investigation and the family’s privacy, no further details are being released at this time.

"This is a heartbreaking loss for our law enforcement family and for the entire Delaware County community. We are grateful for the outpouring of support and prayers from the public and thank all the assisting agencies who responded to this tragic scene," reads a statement from the Delaware County Sheriff's Office.

"A simple lane change, or at least a slow down, for emergency vehicles on the side of the road is not a lot to ask to avoid these tragedies and is required by state statute," reads a statement from Lawrenceburg Police.

Other local agencies have issued similar sentiments.

Indiana's Move Over Law requires drivers to slow down and move over for stationary vehicles with flashing lights, including emergency responders and disabled vehicles, to enhance roadside safety.
