City of Aurora Receives OCRA Grant to Improve Water Infrastructure

The $700,000 grant will be used to help pay for a $1.1 million project.

INDIANAPOLIS – The City of Aurora has been awarded a generous grant to create and expand community facilities and improve water infrastructure.

On Thursday, Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch and the Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) announced 20 rural Indiana communities will be awarded over $12.2 million in federal grant funding.

“The grants provided to these communities will support necessary projects that may not have been possible without the help of this funding,” Crouch said. “By improving water infrastructure and public facilities, communities are improving public health and safety for their residents.”

The City of Aurora is awarded $700,000 for cured-in-place-pipe-lining and/or line replacement. With this funding, the city will fix leaky sewer pipes and improve efficiency and operations of a few lift stations.

The improvements will help clean up the surface water around the city, reduce the amount of stormwater infiltration the new sewer system, and lead to a low bill from the sewer treatment plant.

The Town of Oldenburg was also among the grant recipients, receiving $414,870 to install cured-in-place-pipe lining with manhole rehabilitation of 3,000’ of sanitary gravity water, 500’ of 8” sewer lines, and a mechanical screen at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

These improvements will decrease the among of inflow and infiltration of storm water in the sanitary sewer system, resulting in sewage backups and overflows and less wear and tear on equipment at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
