Bones In Illinois Not Lauren Spierer

(Indianapolis, Ind.) - Human remains found in eastern Illinois about 100 miles from the Indiana University campus are not those of missing IU student Lauren Spierer.

Jasper County Coroner Jason Meyer tells the Hudson Valley Journal News the body found in Newton, Ill. last month some 100 miles from Bloomington turned out to be that of an unidentified male, not Spierer.

“Why this particular body has gained more attention from the media is surprising to me since we had made no mention of it to any media outlets prior to the inquiries that began coming in. We are interested in all unidentified bodies as part of our investigation,” Bloomington police Capt. Joe Qualters told the newspaper.

Spierer, an Edgemont, New York native, was attending Indiana University when she went missing last June following a night of partying.

Since her disappearance, authorities have had few leads and have made no arrests in the case.
