(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - An arrest warrant has issued for the driver in Monday's high speed chase that started in Aurora and ended in Lawrenceburg.

Fuqua, 34, of Louisville, has formally been charged with Resisting Law Enforcement (Level 6 Felony), Fleeing Resulting in Catastrophic Injury (Level 3 Felony), Criminal Recklessness Resulting in Catastrophic Injury (Level 5 Felony) and Theft (Class A Misdemeanor).

The charges stem from a high-speed chase on U.S. 50 that ended around 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Aurora Police say they attempted to stop Fuqua's vehicle on U.S. 50 at Sycamore Estates Drive. Fuqua and his passenger, Jessica Carmon, were allegedly wanted for questioning about a theft that had occurred at the Aurora Walmart.

According to police, Fuqua tried flee down U.S. 50 at speeds in excess of 100 mph. Fuqua eventually hit a stop stick and rear ended the back of a Ford pickup truck and came to a stop in a grassy area in front of Central Elementary School.

Fuqua and Carmon were flown to UC Medical Center for treatment. Carmon sustained numerous broken bones, collapsed lung and a head injury. She remains in serious but stable condition.

Following the accident, police learned that Fuqua had initially assumed the identity of his brother, stating that his name was Jesse. Police say Fuqua had an active parole violation warrant out for his arrest.

Fuqua will be arrested upon his release from University Hospital.

“I want to commend the good job by our officers who did their best to contain the dangerousness of this chase. The Defendant was driving recklessly, at high rates of speed on US 50 during a busy time of the day. The police kept their distance, used their radios for communication and at the end of the day, were able to put a stop to the situation,” stated Prosecutor Deddens.
