(Batesville, Ind.) - Raise a stein! The Sherman is preparing to open a German bier hall in the former Hillenbrand Furniture Factory in Batesville.

After a year of renovating the nearly 120-year-old factory next door, The Sherman has introduced its new Bier Hall.

“Yesterday’s forgotten factory has been transformed into a community entertainment and events venue. The Bier Hall was designed as a venue to meet friends, hang out and enjoy games and live music,” said Georg Heringer, co-owner of The Sherman. “The Bier Hall will increase the appeal of The Sherman as a unique German destination getaway.”

Opening Friday, June 14, the 7,000-square-foot Bier Hall is a combined indoor and outdoor venue. A custom-made 50-foot copper bar will give it that old German atmosphere. The hall also includes pool tables, dart boards, a variety of seating, TVs, a large band stage and dance floor.

The Bier Hall will have live music going on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. Late-night parties will start at 10:00 p.m. on Saturdays year-round.

Of course, visitors will have to be age 21 or older.

A Bier Hall grand opening celebration begins Friday, June 14 at 4:30 p.m. Every hour is a new chance to win prizes ranging up to $250. In addition to the beet, you can listen to music by Sandy Pickett starting at about 5:00 p.m. and Centerline Band around 9:30.

The hall is the latest addition at The Sherman, which added its outdoor Biergarten in 2017. In warmer months, it has been a popular place for locals and visitors to Batesville to hang out, enjoy German fare, and hear live music.

The Sherman is formerly known as the Sherman House, a historic hotel, restaurant, and bar. It closed in 2015, but was purchased and reopened in 2016 by Heringer and Peyton Hughes’ business, HPH Hospitality LLC, which renovated the property.
