(Boone County, Ky.) – Emergency 911 service did not work for many people across northern Kentucky Tuesday morning.
From 7:00 to 9:00 a.m., four of the five dispatch centers in Boone, Campbell, and Kenton counties were unable to receive most calls.
Boone County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tom Scheben termed the problem as “catastrophic.”
“911 calls from landlines were not getting through and non-emergency administrative lines were also down,” Scheben said.
Ironically, the dispatch centers were still able to receive calls made from cell phones.
The problem originated with Cincinnati Bell, but the company is still trying to track the specific cause, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.
“Residents are urged to keep handy the direct phone numbers for their perspective law enforcement, fire & ambulance agencies on the chance they will be needed in such incidents as this one,” Scheben said.
