South Dearborn Athletics Announces Hall of Fame Class of 2026

The induction ceremony is set for June 12.

 

(Aurora, Ind.) - The South Dearborn Athletic Department has announced the 2026 Hall of Fame Induction Class.

This year's inductees are 

Swede Steigerwald

Swede graduated from South Dearborn in 1992. He participated in football, wrestling and baseball. In his 4-year baseball career, he earned 2 letters and was on the 1990 Sectional Championship team. In football, he played 4 years, earned 3 letters, was All EIAC in 1990 and 1991, awarded Most Valuable Defensive Lineman, Most Tackle Points and Team Captain in 1991. He was a standout in wrestling earning 4 letters, was E.I.A.C, Sectional and Regional Champion in the 171-pound weight class in 1991-92 and earned the Most Valuable Wrestler in 1992. Swede was also the Farmer’s Fair representative, Football Homecoming and Prom King in 1991-1992. After high school, Swede attended Franklin College where he played football, and graduated as a student athlete with a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation and Physical Education.

David Marker

David was a 1985 South Dearborn High School graduate. He played on the basketball team and earned four varsity basketball letters. Special accomplishments were 1985 Sectional Champions, 1984-85 Ripley County Tournament Champions, 1985 Conference Champs and was a McDonald’s All-American Nominee. David also holds the single game rebound record of 22. He was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and earned a full ride scholarship to play basketball at Austin Peay State University. He is described as one of the top players in the history of South Dearborn.

Jerry Edwards

Jerry graduated from Dillsboro High School in 1961. He played baseball, basketball and track and amassed a total of 12 letters which is quite an accomplishment. He was a four-year starter and competed on the 1961 basketball team that defeated Lawrenceburg to win the Sectional Championship. After high school, Jerry joined the United States Air Force and became a basketball official and worked two state finals. He is remembered as a good and tough competitor.

Jerry Drew

Jerry was a 1955 graduate of Aurora High School. He earned 9 varsity letters in five different sports during his high school career. After graduating high school, he attended Hanover College and earned 8 varsity letters combined in football, basketball and baseball. Jerry was a great all-around athlete.

The induction ceremony will take place in the SDHS Auditorium on Friday, June 12 at 6:30 OM. All community members are invited to attend. The ceremony will be followed by a dinning reception in the cafeteria.

  • Moores Hill H.S.: Lonnie Eaglin
  • SDHS: Jason Cheek and Joani Heffelmire
  • SDCSC School Board Member: Daryl Cutter
  • SDHS Administration and staff: Principle Steve Ohlhaut, A.D. Ryan Walston, and Athletic Secretary/Treasurer Tammy Dixon
