Redwine, Roell and Bills Represent SEI at IHSAA Girls Wrestling State Finals

Redwine and Roell each placed in the 125-pound tournament.

INDIANAPOLIS - The second annual IHSAA Girls Wrestling State Tournament concluded Friday with the State Finals at the Indiana State Fairgrounds' Corteva Coliseum. 

The southeastern Indiana trio of Kayla Roell (Milan), Klaire Redwine (Switzerland County), and Chloe Bills (Franklin County) all competed in the 125-pound tournament. 

Redwine, the 4th ranked wrestler in the weight class, won her first-round match by fall (5:19), defeating #13 Ariana Quezada (Plainfield, Jr.). She picked up a second win by fall (4:31) in the quarterfinals, defeating #9 Helene Papadakis (Crown Point, So.). In the semifinals, Redwine was defeated by #1 Cordella Wesley (Hobart, Fr.) by major decision (15-5). In her final match of the day, Redwine fell to #3 Maya Hammond (Garrett, Fr.) in the 3rd place match (Dec. 13-9). Redwine finishes the season with a 31-6 record and 4th place finish at state. 

Kayla Roell, the #2 ranked wrestler at 125 pounds, finished 7th. 

Roell defeated Abi Lemon (Jeffersonville, Jr.) in the first round by fall (2:40). She would be defeated in the quarterfinals by #3 Maya Hammond (Garrett, Fr.). The finals score was 10-7. Roell dropped her next match (Dec. 7-6) in the consolation bracket to #7 Adelyn Gamblin (North Posey, Sr.). She would go on to win the 7th place match by fall (4:20) over Papadakis. 

Bills' run to the state finals was cut short with an opening round loss to #7 Adelyn Gamblin (North Posey, Sr.). Bills ends her senior season with a record of 17-7. She is Franklin County's first-ever state qualifier in girls wrestling.
