(Cedar Grove, Ind.) - Cedar Grove said goodbye to its historic bridge Wednesday. The Old State Road 1 Bridge spanning the Whitewater River was built 102 years ago. It has been closed since 1999, but just a couple years ago was added to the National Register of Historic Places. A company contracted by INDOT will bring the steel bridge down with “shape” blasts Wednesday morning. “People have been known to go out on it. It’s leaning. It’s deemed to be a safety hazard so it has to come down. There has been a lot of sentiment about it, but it’s a danger at this point,” INDOT spokesman Harry Maginity told Eagle Country 99.3 shortly before the demo.
