The ceremonial groundbreaking with city and company officials was supposed to take place on Wednesday, October 28. The city announced Tuesday that due to the rain expected, the groundbreaking has been pushed back to Friday, October 30 at 1:00 p.m. The site of the new store is on Tate Street next to the Lawrenceburg Fire Department. Original story published Wednesday, October 21 at 11:13 a.m.: (Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Downtown Lawrenceburg residents were sorely disappointed when Dollar General shut down at the Durbin Plaza in the Spring of 2014. They lost a convenient location to shop for basic household goods and groceries. Some residents who couldn't drive but could walk would frequent the store. In August of 2014, the City of Lawrenceburg issued a press release stating that a developer planned to open a new Dollar General store at the lot formerly occupied by the Tate Street trailer park, next door to the Lawrenceburg Fire Department. However, the lot has remained untouched by any signs of construction since then. But dirt could start moving soon. On Monday, city marketing director Kelly Will announced that the city will host a groundbreaking event for construction of the Dollar General on Tate Street. The informal groundbreaking is scheduled for Wednesday, October 28 at 1:00 p.m. A timeline of a possible opening of the new store could be disclosed at the groundbreaking when city officials expect to provide more information.
