(Greendale, Ind.) - Around 60 students and 30 parents participated in a Bike to School event today, creating an energetic and memorable end to the school year.
The group gathered early Friday morning before riding together with support from local public safety partners. The event encouraged students and families to enjoy a healthy, active commute while promoting bike safety, community connection, and the importance of safe routes to school.
“We were thrilled to see so many students and parents take part in this year’s ride,” said Ryan Goode, event organizer. “This event is simple, but it brings out so much of what makes our community special — families, schools, police departments, and local partners all working together to create something positive for our kids.”
Breakfast snacks were provided through funds the Dearborn County Health Department received from the Safe Routes to School grant program. The program is managed by Health by Design and funded by the Indiana Department of Health – Health Innovation Partnerships and Programs.
A free community Bike Rodeo will take place for local children from primary school through high school on Saturday, May 30, from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Lawrenceburg School parking lot, 400 Tiger Blvd. The event will include bike courses, bike giveaways, bike safety checks, helmet fit checks, and free reflective stickers. The Bike Rodeo is also funded through the same grant program.
Organizers hope the event continues to grow in future years as more families look for safe and fun ways to encourage walking, biking, and active transportation to school.
