The coats were distributed to local school children, and area nonprofits and programs.

(Southeast Indiana) - The Southeastern Indiana United Way led other civic-minded groups in providing more than 200 coats, along with hats and gloves, socks and shoes, blankets and more to needy children and adults in our area during the recent holiday season. The United Way partnered with Danette Volpenhein from State Farm Insurance and Civista Bank to place boxes around the community where generous folks could donate, including the Aurora and Lawrenceburg Public Libraries, and the Lawrenceburg Community Center. Hollywood Casino also donated coats.

As well, the City of Lawrenceburg Youth Grant Program contributed $1,000 and the United Way of Greater Cincinnati provided a $2,500 grant for blankets and another $2,500 grant for the Cops and Kids Program, in which local law enforcement officers take underprivileged youth on a shopping trip to Walmart.

The coats were distributed to local school children, the Dearborn Adult Center, and the Heart House as well as to SIEOC for Headstart kids and to the annual Toys for Tots program.

Southeastern Indiana United Way Executive Director Karen Snyder commented, “We are quite fortunate in our community to have so many generous folks who want to step up and help those in need, especially during the holiday season. A big thanks to Danette at State Farm and E.G. McLaughlin at Civista for their leadership on this project.

The United Way, which began more than 130 years ago, continues to be a leader in supporting community projects that assist our neighbors in need. For more information, go to uwgc.org.
