Sunman Stormwater Improvement Project Gets Start Date

Tele-Vac has been contracted to complete the work.

(Sunman, Ind.) – A stormwater improvement project is scheduled to start this month in Sunman.

Town officials announced Monday morning that the project will begin on April 24.

The project is being funded by grants awarded by the Indiana Finance Authority Transportation and Stormwater Grant for $169,000 and the Rising Sun Regional Foundation for $39,000.

Tele-Vac has been contracted to complete the work along State Road 101, Eastern Avenue, and Whitetail. They will be collecting sediment and debris that has built up in the sewer system using vacuum trucks and other methods.

Once the debris are cleared, Tele-Vac will record the condition of the sewer to help identify the causes of drainage issues in the project area.

Town officials say several areas of the VCT piping have failed over time causing infiltration into the sewer system, which leads to localized flooding.

The aim of the project is to reduce or eliminate flooding issues. The project is also expected to improve operational efficiencies and reduce ongoing costs.

The project is expected to last 45 to 60 days.

Traffic controls will be in place, but some minor delays may occur.
