(Batesville, Ind.) – Today, Margaret Mary Health (MMH) will begin site work for their new hospital located on Indiana State Road 229 just north of the I-74 Batesville interchange. The site being developed is adjacent to the Margaret Mary Physician Center and Margaret Mary Outpatient and Cancer Center and will span approximately 23 acres, including the 124,000 square foot hospital, expanded walking trails and green spaces to promote community wellness. The total project cost is estimated at $115 million.

“We have been working closely with multiple governing entities over the past six months to obtain the approvals necessary to begin construction,” noted MMH Chief Operating Officer, Brian Daeger. “With plan approvals granted by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, the Indiana Department of Health and local authorities, we are now in a position to move forward with preparing the site for future construction.”

Site work will include surveying, grading, leveling and preparing the land for proper drainage and features including roads, utilities, structures, parking lots, ponds and walking trails. Structural work will begin in late summer with construction scheduled to finish in early 2026 and an anticipated opening for patient care in late summer. MMH is partnering with Cincinnati, Ohio-based construction firm Danis and Batesville, Indiana-based construction firm Bruns-Gutzwiller for management of the project.

“This building will be the anchor of our campus and the most important Margaret Mary construction project in our history, perhaps only second to our original building on Mitchell Avenue dating back to 1932,” shared MMH President and CEO, Liz Leising. “Our focus continues to be delivering on our mission, understanding each decision we make impacts our patients and the communities we serve. After countless hours of thoughtful design work with GBBN, our architectural design firm, Margaret Mary leaders and frontline team members, I am confident the new hospital will not only provide our patients with the type of care experience they deserve but will also transform our future and our ability to advance the overall health of our community.”
