Retired Teachers Install New Officers, Celebrate Awards

(Dearborn County, Ind.) - Members of the Dearborn County Retired Teachers Association (DCRTA) recently gathered for their summer meeting at Greendale Middle School where they installed new officers and celebrated a number of awards and accomplishments from the statewide IRTA Representative Assembly in Indianapolis. 

Mark Guard, former IRTA Area 10 Director, current treasurer and president-elect of IRTA conducted the initiation of Sharon Moder as President, Judy Hagedorn as Vice-President, Patricia Harper as Secretary, and Lucinda Campbell as Treasurer.

The group also recognized the outstanding work of the outgoing executive officers: President Judy Mosier, Vice-President Janet Hart, Secretary Patty Harper, and Treasurer Etta Bostwick.

Award recognition included Sharon Moder receiving the coveted Clock Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service. The local chapter collected four awards for outstanding Public Relations including Outstanding Newsletter and Outstanding Press Release. Sandy Bowlus, Pat Harper, and Ron Nicholson received Honorable Mention Service Awards, and three members were honored for Associate Member Service: Jennifer McClamrock, Martha Peetz, and Laura Rolf.

The group also received the Outstanding Chapter Project Award for the Sewing Club’s project with St. John’s Lutheran School. That group also announced they continue to work making clothes for children in Third World countries and are in need of donations of pillowcases, thread, buttons, elastic, trim, and material especially with “boy’ appropriate patterns. DCRTA, an affiliate of the IRTA, is made up of retired teachers and those who support teachers through Associate Membership, with 250 members. The group works year-round throughout the community supporting education-centered projects and other volunteer work and is affiliated with the Dearborn County Retired Teachers Foundation which awards grants to local teachers for classroom projects. The next meeting will take place at Greendale Middle School August 19 at 4:30 with a meal and program. Those interested in joining should contact President Sharon Moder at Mrsmoder@gmail.com.
