The show choir was named the grand champion of the varsity division at the Edgewood Contest of Champions in Ellettsville, Indiana - near Bloomington - on Saturday, says director Justin Selmeyer. Gary Hill won his ninth Outstanding Performer in his career, according to Selmeyer. Trenton Donk tied for first in the male soloist division with a perfect score. Taylor Ingle was in the top three in the female soloist division by earning 49 of 50 points. "Last year, several of our students were not satisfied about our results. In 2016, we completed an undefeated season and we didn't meet our expectations in 2017. This year's group really has stepped it up this season and they keep improving each competition. We take great pride in representing our community and South Dearborn High School," Selmeyer said. Selmeyer credits choreographers Jason Johnson and Jeff Burton, as well as assistant director Matt Trossman, for the choir performing at a high level Edgewood was the fourth event of Opening Knight’s competition season. Their next competition will be February 23 at Franklin Central High School. They will host the Opening Knight Showcase on March 3 in Aurora. "We thank everyone in Eagle Country for their support of Opening Knight," said Selmeyer.
