Monday afternoon.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - What was a holiday for many people in the area turned into a traffic nightmare Monday.

The morning commute began with slick roads on Interstate 74 and I-275 which created dozens of slideoffs and even a few more serious accidents.

Later in the morning, more than 30 vehicles were involved in a chain reaction pileup on I-75 near the 160 mile marker at the Kenton and Grant County line. The interstate was closed for almost four hours during the cleanup. Various reports say six to eight people suffered minor injuries.

Kentucky State Police at Post 6 say they investigated more than 28 collisions Monday. None included serious injuries.

A second line of snow showers in the afternoon created more slick conditions. Traffic on I-275 at the Ohio River between Indiana and Kentucky on the Carrol Cropper Bridge came to a stop for over two hours because of ice which caused multiple wrecks on each end of the bridge.

I-75 in Florence at the I-275 interchange was also closed for a period.

Lawrenceburg Police closed the westbound U.S. 50 flyover bridge at Tanners Creek for ice. Traffic was diverted to the older bridge going eastbound as it was set up to temporarily handle both directions of traffic.

The Dearborn County Sheriff's Department's daily activity log showed deputies were dispatched to 33 accidents around the county Monday.

Some effects of Monday’s snow have carried over into Tuesday. Switzerland County Schools are on a two hour delay. Owen County Schools in Kentucky issued a one hour delay.
