Northern Kentucky Sewer Bills About To Increase

SD1's 2019 budget was approved Thursday.

(Boone County, Ky.) - A rate increase is coming to sewer bills for many northern Kentucky residents and businesses.

Judge-executives for Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties approved Thursday the 2019 budget for Sanitation District 1. The second largest public sewer utility company in Kentucky provides wastewater, storm water, and water treatment in much of those three counties.

The budget includes a five-percent increase in sanitary sewer service fees. SD1’s 290,000 customers will notice the increase of 38 cents per every 100 cubic feet of water used starting with their August bills.

The average household will see an increase of about $2.28 on their monthly bill, according to SD1.

The current storm water fee of $5.04 per month will not change.

“In order to minimize these impacts on our customers, I’m pleased to report that we were able to cut other areas of our budget by almost a million dollars through the consolidation of jobs and streamlining our operations,” said SD1 Executive Director Adam Chaney.

The rate increase will generate revenues for SD1 to update its infrastructure, meet requirements set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and keep pace with increasing pension, health care and energy costs.

Projects in the 2019 budget include upgrading sanitary sewers in parts of Bone County and Elsmere to reduce overflows and allow for continued economic development.
