N. Dearborn Rd To Close For Year Starting In June

(Bright, Ind.) – Motorists will have to detour around a construction project which will close North Dearborn Road for about a year.

Dearborn County Highway and Engineering Department head Todd Listerman says the two lane road will undergo a $3 million straightening and safety improvement project beginning in June.

The closure could last through the project’s completion sometime in the summer of 2013.

“Would like to be able to open it back over winter but it will all be dependent on weather,” Listerman said.

Motorists will be asked to detour to McCann Road to Gaynor Ridge Road to Old State Road 1 to State Road 1.

Beginning about 1,600 feet east of State Road 1 in Dover and continuing east through 2,300 feet east of Hiltz Road, the highly-traveled road will be closed to thru traffic. Local residents will still be given access to their homes.

Among the improvements to be made include better sight distance, replacing the bridge at Slab Camp Creek with a new concrete culvert, and wider 12-foot lanes with shoulders.

Listerman says 80 percent of the project is being funded with federal dollars. Some of the funds will be used to relocate Southeastern Indiana REMC power lines and Tri-Township Water Company lines.
