(Hebron, Ky.) - Boone County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a motorcycle collision on Tuesday around 10:49 p.m.
The incident along westbound I-275 in Hebron resulted in a single fatality involving the operator of the motorcycle.
According to a news release from the Boone County Sheriff's Office, a Kawasaki motorcycle operated by Maxwell Trentman, 18, of West Chester, Ohio, was traveling westbound alongside two other motorcycles when he lost control of his motorcycle.
Trentman laid the bike down, slide off the roadway and struck a guardrail. The force of the collision broke the motorcycle into several pieces and ejected Trentman into the middle of the roadway.
He was subsequently struck by four additional vehicles that were unable to avoid him.
Additionally, Lorenzo Karuppan, 18, of Liberty Township, Ohio, was unable to avoid debris and lost control of his motorcycle. He was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Unit is actively investigating the collision. Preliminary findings indicate that contributing factors include excessive speed, loss of control, and failure to maintain lane.
Trentman was wearing a helmet; however, the force of the impact dislodged it. All involved parties are cooperating with the investigation.
The highway remained closed during the investigation and was reopened to traffic at approximately 3:58 a.m.
