Margaret Mary Health Experiencing Sanitation Line Challenges

A blockage was discovered on Monday.

(Batesville, Ind.) - On Monday, Oct. 4, it was discovered a sanitation line at Margaret Mary Health’s main campus was experiencing a blockage. The blockage in this wastewater line caused a back-up in three patient room restrooms on the second floor of the Med/Surg unit. The back-up has been contained to the restrooms and posed no health risk to any patients. Those patients affected have been relocated until the issue is resolved. We are actively working with local contractors and anticipate the line will be fixed and functioning yet today. When the repairs are complete and the patient rooms have been sanitized and disinfected, they will be reopened for use.

“This is truly a very unfortunate situation we’re up against,” said Liz Leising, interim CEO and President of Margaret Mary Health. “Under normal circumstances our inpatient volumes are much lower and had this occurred we could easily move patients into private rooms with very little impact. With the current COVID-19 surge, we have 32 patients on the floor, which is more than double our normal capacity, forcing us to have multiple patients in a room. We understand this is not the patient and family experience we pride ourselves on providing, however we can assure you we will not let it impact the quality care our patients deserve. We hope this will be resolved very quickly and appreciate everyone’s patience during this challenging time.”
